Streamlining print to local printer without DRA (document routing agent) in Dyn365FO

With version 10.0.4 PU28 (July 2019) of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operation you will get a feature called “Preview PDF documents with an embedded viewer“. With this feature you can streamline print to local printer without DRA (document routing agent).

Before 10.0.4 PU28 (without “Preview PDF documents with an embedded viewer”)

The steps to print to a local printer without DRA before 10.0.4 PU28 are the following:

  • Pint/open SSRS-Report with destination screen
  • Export – PDF
  • Open downloaded PDF
  • Print to local printer

In 10.0.4 PU28 (with”Preview PDF documents with an embedded viewer”)

In and beyond 10.0.4 PU28 the steps to print to a local printer without DRA are much easier:

  • Pint/open SSRS-Report with destination screen
  • Print to local printer

Another benefit of the new feature is, that you will see a “real” page preview for the document. In previous versions you only saw the SSRS preview which never where the same as the real printout.

The feature is currently enabled by default but for one-box deployments you have to activate the feature via Report options page.

  • Go to the Report options page by adding “&mi=SysReportAdministration” to the URL in your browser window.
  • Set the Preview documents using embedded viewer field to Yes.
  • Click Save.

Version 10.0.4 PU28 (July 2019) is currently in PEAP-Preview and you can expect it as GA (Generally available) on July 12, 2019 as you can read here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/fin-and-ops/get-started/public-preview-releases#release-cadence
